Mizzou women’s basketball fell 89-71 to Florida on Sunday afternoon at Exactech Arena at Stephen C. O’Connell Center.
Junior guard Grace Slaughter led Mizzou (13-8, 1-5 SEC) with 29 points and five rebounds. It is the fourth time in her career Slaughter has recorded 29 or more and the second time this season.
Junior guard Shannon Dowell totaled 23 points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal. The performance marks the second time this season that Slaughter and Dowell have each scored 20 or more points in the same contest. The duo accomplished the feat in a win over Cal on Dec. 4, 2025.
Florida (13-8, 1-5) executed offensively early in the contest and separated from the Tigers. Mizzou settled in down the stretch of the opening period and notched the final four points in the frame, which Dowell concluded with a stepback jumper. The Tigers trailed 26-8 headed into the second.
Dowell and Slaughter paced Mizzou’s offense as the Tigers climbed back into the contest with a 15-5 run that spanned the periods.
To start the second, Dowell drove left, cut right, and elevated through two Florida defenders for a layup. Moments later, she scored in transition to continue the push. Slaughter contributed five in the run and capped it off with a triple from the left corner to bring Mizzou within 12.
Florida mounted a response run as the game neared the half and led 47-29 at the break.
Mizzou scored the first five points of the third as a 3-pointer from Slaughter cut the Tigers’ deficit to 13. Following the short scoring burst, Florida ramped up its efficiency on the offensive end and extended its lead in the heart of the frame.
Slaughter tallied a triple from well beyond the arc in the closing seconds of the quarter, but Mizzou faced a 66-48 deficit after three.
The Grain Valley, Missouri native continued her scoring barrage and scored the first four points of the fourth for the Tigers.
Dowell followed and added 12 of her final point total in the fourth behind a 7-of-8 performance at the free-throw line.
Despite the duo’s offensive efforts, Florida was able to maintain its advantage until the close of the contest.
Following the opening quarter, Mizzou remained even with the Gators in the scoring column.
