Rare Snowfall For Florida, Central Georgia
Snow fell in Florida on Sunday’s early morning hours.
Winter storm warnings were issued on Saturday for an area stretching from Macon, Georgia, down to Tallahassee, Florida.
Flurries began on the western Florida panhandle late into the night. Some residents even stayed up for a rare glimpse of snow. For those that did wait, there were some rather unusual sights to be seen. A few flakes landed on the beach and snow nestled into palm fronds. It was too warm to stick to the roads, but a dusting of snow sat on the grass for a little while before mostly melting.

By the time of sunrise, traffic cameras on Interstate 10 across the panhandle were showing a snowy white landscape along the roadways.
The light dusting arrives almost exactly one year after Winter Storm Enzo, a rare event that brought heavy snow to the Gulf Coast.

That year, Florida broke the state snowfall record with 9.8 inches of snow in Milton. The previous record had been 4 inches in 1954. For many areas in the Gulf Coast, it was the most significant snowfall since the late 1800s.
This rare snow on Florida’s panhandle comes almost exactly a year after the record-breaking Winter Storm Enzo.

Snowfall totals for today will be much smaller than last year’s event, but initial reports suggest that some areas will see true measurable numbers.
In Georgia, snowfall is likely to be heavier and may cause some travel delays across the state.
As much as 3 inches of snow are forecast for central Georgia on Sunday. Footage from traffic cameras already show significant snowfall outside of Macon, Georgia.
The Georgia Department of Transportation announced it would be running salt trucks on the roads and monitoring for the possibility of black ice as temperatures continue to dip on Sunday night.
