Bonnie Mae Leary “Pete”, 98, of Jacksonville passed away peacefully January 14th, 2026. Her celebration of life will be held on January 21, 2026, at 12:00 noon at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville with Melvin Bland officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Onslow Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Bonnie was a CNA and worked at Onslow Pines Rest Home and Premier Nursing Home in Jacksonville for years.

She loved to mow grass and going to get her hair done with her special friend Maryanne. Everybody knew she had to have her extra brown cheddar bo biscuit from Bojangles.

Proceeded in death by her parents Hamp and Belle Miller; son: Jimmy Mills; daughters: Dorothy Marshburn, Tammy Hemby; her brothers (all Millers): Bruce, Herman, Leo, Woodrow, Clifton, Douglas, Dick, Buck; and sisters: Hazel Stallings, Estelle Tyndall Smith. Great grandchildren: Emercyn and Keaton.

She is survived by son: Roger (Sylvia) Mills of Newport; daughter: Shirley Thompson of Wilson and sister: Louise Futrell of Jacksonville. Seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren. Lifelong friends Cat, Darlene, Travis, Tammy, Charles, Bonnie, Carol and many more special friends, nieces, and nephews.

Our loving mama and grandma was a loyal servant to Jesus and witnessed to everyone she came encounter with and shared all the great things he has done. She believed in the power of prayers.
