A ribbon cutting and ceremonial time capsule installation were recently held to mark the official opening of The Arcadian, a newly completed mixed-use residential development at 640 NW 7th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale’s Sistrunk District. The project delivers 502 apartments across two eight-story buildings and represents one of the most significant recent investments tied to attainable housing and commercial activation in the area.

Dean J. Trantalis joined city and county officials alongside the development team for the event, which took place along the project’s pedestrian-oriented Paseo. Attendees included Steven Glassman, Pamela Beasley-Pittman, Ben Sorensen, Alexandra Davis, Lamar Fisher, Rickelle Williams, Vanessa Martin, and representatives from the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce.

The development is led by Fuse Group and KREA Developments. Company leadership present included Eyal Peretz, Shimon Elkabetz, and Mauricio Girault Domenge. The ceremony was hosted by Stephanie Toothaker, with remarks delivered by Mayor Trantalis, Commissioner Glassman, and Peretz.

“The completion of The Arcadian confirms the city’s commitment to helping build affordable housing in our community,” said Mayor Dean Trantalis. “It also creates space for small businesses, entrepreneurs and local economic growth in the heart of the Sistrunk District.”

Peretz addressed the project’s role within the neighborhood’s long-term development. “The Arcadian represents years of commitment to the Sistrunk District and Fort Lauderdale’s westward expansion,” said Peretz. “This ribbon cutting celebrates the completion of a transformational project that balances history and progress. The time capsule will serve as a reminder to future generations of our vision for economic opportunity, community empowerment and cultural preservation in this historic neighborhood.”

Following the ribbon cutting, a time capsule was installed on-site and is scheduled to be opened on January 15, 2051. The capsule is intended to reflect present-day aspirations tied to the district’s revitalization. Light refreshments were provided by Salty Bean, a future ground-floor restaurant tenant, and guided tours of the property followed the ceremony.

The Arcadian consists of 502 residential units, including studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom layouts. Of the total unit count, 151 apartments are designated as attainable housing for qualified households earning between 100 percent and 120 percent of area median income. The development also includes approximately 15,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space intended for neighborhood-serving businesses and entrepreneurs, along with a structured parking garage containing 629 spaces. The project received a $10 million investment from the Fort Lauderdale Community Redevelopment Agency.
