JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – Several hundred people braved the cold in Jacksonville Monday morning in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to mark what would have been the civil rights leader’s 97th birthday which took place on January 15th.
Several organizations including the NAACP organized the march which left from Jacksonville City Hall and continued to the Onslow County Courthouse and back to city hall along New Bridge Street which is just over a mile.
Retired Jacksonville police chief and current city council member Mike Yaniero also helped lead the march.
