ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — St. Lucie County officials are expected to provide updates this afternoon on two separate criminal investigations that unfolded days apart.
A press conference is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office.
The first involves a truck stop arrest that investigators later connected to a homicide. Deputies initially arrested truck driver Olson Jean for resisting an officer without violence, a misdemeanor, after receiving a 911 call reporting a suspicious truck parked in a ditch near the Pilot Travel Center.
While investigating the scene, deputies found blood on the truck’s passenger door and inside the cabin. Investigators say the blood belonged to Wendy Moncion of Coconut Creek, who they identified as a murder victim.
Authorities have not yet explained how Jean was linked to the homicide, where Moncion’s body was found, or what the possible motive may have been. CBS12 News is hoping to clarify those unanswered questions during Tuesday afternoon’s press conference.
The second case involves a violent encounter stemming from a Facebook Marketplace meetup in Fort Pierce on Sunday.
Investigators say the shooting was not random and that they are still searching for a fifth person believed to have been involved. Deputies say three people ambushed a buyer who thought they were purchasing an iPhone. After a brief exchange, investigators say the buyer opened fire, and the group shot back.
Four men were injured and taken to HCA Lawnwood Hospital. They are expected to make a full recovery. No additional details about their conditions were released.
Authorities are using the incident as a reminder that online meetups can turn dangerous and encourage people to use designated safe exchange zones, such as those located in front of the St. Lucie County sheriff’s offices, when buying or selling items with someone they do not know.
Officials say additional details on both investigations are expected later this afternoon.
CBS12 News will have a crew there. This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
