TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (CBS12) — In a move to protect children from online predators, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has launched an investigation into Roblox, citing alarming concerns over the platform’s failure to safeguard its young users from inappropriate content and dangerous interactions.

“Platforms like Roblox have become breeding grounds for predators to gain access to our kids,” Uthmeier stated. “We will stop at nothing in the fight to protect Florida’s children, and companies that expose them to harm will be held accountable.”

Uthmeier said that recently concerns have been raised about the platform’s ability to verify users’ ages and its lax content moderation, which has reportedly allowed inappropriate material to slip through the cracks.

According to Uthmeier, recent investigations have shown that sexual predators are using Roblox to communicate with and groom minors.

Additionally, it’s been reported that predators are using the in-game currency, “Robux,” to manipulate minors into sharing explicit images of themselves.

Uthmeier said that victims argue that Roblox has failed to implement effective safety measures and has not provided adequate warnings to parents about the potential dangers their children face on the platform.

Despite these allegations, Roblox has allegedly continued to promote itself as a safe environment for young users.
