If you’ve ever wanted to know what it’s like to drift around in Dom Toretto’s Dodge Challenger, well, now’s your chance. Universal Studios Orlando announced a new roller coaster coming to its Central Florida park, dubbed Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift.
A sibling to the already announced coaster of the same name at Universal Studios Hollywood, Orlando will get its own version of the highly anticipated attraction. Hollywood Drift will replace the long-running Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit coaster, which was demolished late last year after 16 years in the park.
Opening in 2027, the new Fast & Furious coaster lets riders experience “360-degree drifting” in ride vehicles inspired by the movie cars. The attraction includes a 170-foot vertical “spike” that stands nearly 17 stories tall, as well as a few “jaw-dropping maneuvers,” according to the company.
With this new coaster on the way, Universal Orlando fans will also have to say goodbye to the park’s current Fast & Furious attraction. Fast & Furious—Supercharged will permanently close its doors in 2027 after nearly a decade in operation. Literally tens of people will be upset.
What We Know So Far
While Universal hasn’t shared all the details about the Orlando version (expect that closer to an opening date), we can at least look to Hollywood for some clues. The video above shows exactly what that version will look like.
The Hollywood coaster measures 4,100 feet in length (or about two football fields) and reaches a top speed of 72 miles per hour. It, too, promises 360-degree drifts, with ride vehicles modeled after iconic cars from the franchise, including Toretto’s 1970 Dodge Charger and Paul Walker’s Nissan Skyline.
The Hollywood version is scheduled to open in 2026, but Florida fans will have to wait an extra year for their turn. More details are expected to be released closer to the ride’s opening.
Motor1’s Take: We can’t wait to ride this thing. If Orlando’s Hollywood Drift is anything like the West Coast version, this looks like it will be an epic roller coaster. Just make sure to pack plenty of Dramamine.
