Men suspected in boat GPS heists

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Two men are accused of working together to steal two high-end GPS units from boats at Gables Motorsport in southwest Miami-Dade early Saturday morning.

Thirty-two-year-old suspects James Briggs-Stanford, of Atlanta, and Shavonte Malone, of southwest Miami-Dade, are now facing charges.

Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies say that while one was working to cut out the GPS units just after 1 a.m., the other worked as a lookout in the getaway car, a Tesla.

They were quickly arrested because the business, located at 7300 Bird Road, is monitored by a third-party security company.

The two appeared in bond court before a judge. They are facing grand theft, burglary and criminal mischief charges.

According to the arrest report, the suspect caused thousands of dollars in damage, but the GPS units were recovered.
