A Fast & Furious-themed roller coaster is the project that’s going up at Universal Studios Florida theme park. It will replace Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, which closed in August.
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, an outdoor coaster, will open in 2027, Universal Orlando announced Tuesday. Construction has been in the works for months at the site, which is wedged between the former Blue Man Group building and Universal CityWalk.
Universal also announced that its Fast & Furious: Supercharged attraction will close at the theme park in 2027. The big-screen dark ride opened in 2018, taking over the space of the Disaster attraction.
In the upcoming coaster, “riders will experience the exhilarating sensation of 360-degree drifting as they speed through jaw-dropping maneuvers — including a 170-foot vertical ‘spike’ that will send riders nearly 17 stories in the air over the outskirts of Universal CityWalk,” according to a news release issued Tuesday. (Rockit’s peak height was 167 feet). No further details were shared; an online video showed only passing headlights and exhaust plus racing motor sound effects.
Hollywood Drift will be the first major addition announced for Universal Orlando since Epic Universe theme park debuted in May 2025.
Universal’s Fast & Furious rides have been inspired by the 11-installment “The Fast and the Furious” movie franchise, which has featured Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson and others. The latest “Furious” film arrived in 2023.

Universal Studios Hollywood is also adding a Hollywood Drift roller coaster, but they are different designs, Universal Orlando confirmed Tuesday. The West Coast attraction is slated to open this year.
