TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – We’re still dealing a bit of cold air as a light freeze with some frost is expected Wednesday morning, but then a warming trend gets underway.
Highs on Wednesday will reach the mid 60s, then 70s will return on Thursday and Friday. Rain chances will be slower to increase, with no rain expected until isolated showers are forecast by Friday, and a few during the day on Saturday.
Then the rain chances will quickly increase Saturday night into Sunday. That will be tied into a large, very impactful winter storm that could cause problems from Texas to the Carolinas.
Our area will likely see just a good chance of rain. But farther north, it will be much different. Freezing rain could cause not only widespread travel problems, but also power outages.
The exact areas to get the worst of it are still uncertain, but areas from Jackson, MS to Birmingham, AL to Atlanta, GA to Raleigh, NC will see big impacts. North of that, especially in Tennessee, and into the western North Carolina mountains, could see large amounts of snow.
Travel could be extremely difficult, if not impossible in parts of those areas Saturday afternoon into Sunday afternoon.
Once that system departs, chilly weather returns to our area, with lows near 30 again by Tuesday of next week.
