LONGWOOD, Fla. — If you’ve ever visited New York, or you grew up there, then you know the importance of running a good deli. And egg cream. And meat that sits high within two pieces of rye.
Nestled right off I-4 in Longwood is Pickles NY Deli. The owner, Rick Bouffard, makes a bold claim, and he’s sticking to it: “We’re saving the sandwich!” he said. “You can’t get a good sandwich anywhere other than here.”
That means using the thickest seeded rye bread around. Plus, ingredients like Ginsburg pastrami and corned beef that’s sliced daily on property.
“I know my way around brisket. It just falls apart,” Bouffard said.
“The Skyscraper” is their featured item with a whopping pound of meat!
Hungry? Let’s cook!
RECIPE: Skyscraper Brooklyn Rueben (NOTE: This recipe is provided by Pickles NY Deli, Longwood)
Start with two slices of thick-cut, seeded rye bread, toasted to perfection on a seasoned grill (or toaster)
Each slice gets a melted layer of Swiss cheese
Add a generous dollop of creamy Russian dressing
Next, pile on the stars of the show
½ pound of freshly cooked, in-house corned beef
½ pound of famous Ginsburg pastrami
Grilled and chopped for that signature sizzle and flavor
Layer on the sauerkraut
Served with your choice of side and, of course, a crisp pickle
Stacked sky-high, this sandwich isn’t just a Reuben — it’s the Skyscraper Brooklyn Reuben featuring a full pound of meat between those golden rye slices.
