JEFFERSON, Texas (KLTV) – In a poignant moment, five train cars from the beloved Historic Jefferson Railway have been donated to a Florida nonprofit to once again bring joy to families and preserve railroad heritage.
The cars were donated to Kirby Family Farms, a 110-acre nonprofit operation that hosts family events and maintains its own railway line.
Kirby Family Farms, which previously received a donated steam locomotive from the Jefferson railway, has already established a strong relationship with former owner Diamond Don, who said the donations were “bittersweet.”
The transfer began Wednesday with the first of the five train cars being loaded onto a specially made trailer for the nearly 13-hour journey southeast.
The Historic Jefferson Railway was a 3-foot narrow-gauge railroad in Jefferson. Its route once passed the Jefferson Ordinance Magazine, one of the few remaining Confederate powder magazines from the Civil War.
