TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV/Gray Florida Capital Bureau) – The Florida Senate committee approved a bill Wednesday that would make buying dogs and cats from pet stores more transparent.
The bill requires pet stores to provide medical records to new pet owners, disclose all financing terms and implement a three-day waiting period between the purchase agreement and taking possession of the pet.

“Puppy buyers have a right to know, certainly, the medical background. The waiting period makes sense for the consumer to be sure it’s the right financial decision,” said Kate MacFall of Humane World for Animals.
Similar bills in the House have not been scheduled for a hearing yet.
