TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV/Gray Florida Capital Bureau) – A Senate committee moved a bill Wednesday that establishes rounding rules for cash transactions after the federal government stopped making pennies last year.
The bill specifies that rounding will be needed to the nearest nickel or dime, depending on the actual transaction total.
Florida politics:
“We are moving to a penniless economy, and this bill tries to provide some guidance that lets retailers know how to proceed,” said Sen. Don Gaetz, R-Pensacola.
The changes would only apply when someone pays in cash. Electronic transactions would remain the same.
