PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — A local teacher is receiving the honor of being named the 2026 Teacher of the Year for Pinellas County Schools.
The district announced Denise White, a teacher at James B. Sanderlin K-8 in St. Pete, is receiving the honor after teaching in the county for 32 years. She was named Teacher of the Year Wednesday night during the annual Illuminate: Evening of Excellence hosted by Pinellas Education Foundation at the Hilton St. Petersburg Carillon Park.
White was born and raised in the Pinellas County community, and even graduated from Northeast High School.
“The difference I strive to make is rooted in helping students believe in themselves and in their abilities, finding confidence that extends beyond the classroom,” she said in a statement. “And understand that, with effort, they are capable of overcoming challenges and achieving great things.”
Her parents and sister are also graduates of Pinellas County Schools.
White’s son is following the family’s footsteps, as he also is set to graduate from Northeast High next year.
District leaders describe her education journey as “one of multigenerational pride, service, and lifelong commitment to public education.”

Her passion, joy, and belief in each child have shaped generations. We are honored to celebrate her as the 2026 Pinellas County Schools Teacher of the Year,” Kevin Hendrick, Superintendent of Pinellas County Schools, said in a statement. “To all of our Teachers of the Year, your dedication and unwavering commitment to students and families embody the very best of who we are as a district. You show us every day what is possible for every child.”
