Cape Coral City Council at their Jan. 21 meeting officially accepted a $6 million grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection for the Cape’s Northeast Reservoir Project, which will provide additional water for the city’s freshwater canal system. The grant assists in funding construction of a 3.2-mile, 36-inch pipeline on U.S. 41 and a new pump station to draw water from the city’s NE Reservoir in Charlotte County. The water travels to Gator Slough in Lee County where it can enter the city’s canal system. This latest award brings FDEP’s total in grant funding for the NE Reservoir Project to $12 million. It is expected to be complete by Oct. 31, 2028.
