The School District of Lee County is excited to launch the naming process for two new schools. Suggestions are currently being accepted for a new high school in Alva and a new elementary school in Lehigh Acres. Both schools are supported by the half-cent sales tax approved by voters in 2018 and help to alleviate overcrowding in East Region schools.
High School NNN is located at 21700 Tuckahoe Rd. in Alva. The campus will open in August 2027 with a capacity of 2,000 students. It will offer unique opportunities for students to prepare for careers in agriculture with academies in Agri-Technology and Animal Husbandry. The School Board of Lee County approved a Total Project Cost of $168 million for High School NNN on October 7, allowing for construction to begin.
Elementary L is a 1,000-seat elementary school planned for 17250 State Road 82 in Lehigh Acres. The school will open in a temporary portable campus in August 2026 behind Lehigh Senior High School. Students will shift to the new school in August 2028. The location on State Road 82 is large enough that a middle school is also anticipated to open in 2028, and a high school to follow in 2032.
In general, the School Board is looking for names that refer to at least one of the following:
The history, culture, and people of Florida and especially of Southwest Florida;
The natural environment and native plants and animals of Florida and especially of Southwest Florida;
Notable events or achievements that are associated with Florida and especially with Southwest Florida;
The neighborhood, community, or physical location of the school;
Founders, leaders, heroes, symbols, and fundamental principles of our nation.
Naming suggestions for High School NNN can be submitted on the School District website at https://www.leeschools.net/our_schools/high_school_nnn. The survey is open until 5:00 p.m. on October 24th.
Naming suggestions for Elementary L can be submitted on the School District website at https://www.leeschools.net/our_schools/elementary_l. The survey is open until 5:00 p.m. on October 24th.
Once the surveys are closed, Ad Hoc committees will review the suggestions to determine which ones meet School Board Policy 7250. A second set of surveys will be conducted in November, focusing on the top qualifying suggestions. The Ad Hoc committees will review the final survey results and present a recommendation to the School Board for their approval in December.
