TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Hundreds gathered at the Florida State Capitol on Thursday to celebrate the 8th annual Rural Counties Day.
The event hosted 29 rural communities across the Sunshine State, showcasing their unique cultures and promoting their various industries.
The Senate sent its “Rural Renaissance” bill to the House last week. If it passes through the House, it will allocate a $217.9 million package to bolster education, commerce and healthcare in rural counties.
Florida politics:
Sen. Corey Simon, R-Tallahassee, spoke about the importance of rural communities in the state.
“Let this be clear: rural Florida is not an afterthought. It is essential to Florida’s future. When rural Florida thrives, all of Florida thrives,” he said.
