Miami sophomore Cates Freska, who flew in from California, took advantage of the early arrival period. “Being from California, honestly, if I didn’t come in early and be able to move in early, I literally would not have made it,” Freska said. “I don’t think I would have made it to school. So it’s really nice that they’re letting us move in now.” The university waived the $45/night early move-in fee. Bashaun Smith, associate vice president and dean of students, said arriving safely is priority. “We don’t want the fee to be a discouragement for anyone, especially folks that were suffering from financial like needs,” Smith said. Miami asks students who cannot arrive to campus by Tuesday due to the snow to communicate directly with faculty.While classes will not be in session Monday, the university says it will be open with “limited services,” starting at 10 a.m. This includes the Recreation Center, Student Health Services, Armstrong Student Center, King Library and Brick and Ivy Bookstore. Faculty is being advised to shift to remote work on Monday. Those positions who are not eligible for remote work are to still report to campus or request leave. The university says managers and supervisors will communicate plans to staff.Vehicles cannot be parked on snow emergency routes during snow emergencies.
