TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The discovery of “what appeared to be remnants of a casket and bone fragments” by city crews in Tom Brown Park this week has prompted a state investigation, according to a social media post from the City of Tallahassee.
The State Medical Examiner’s Office and archaeologists with the Department of State’s Division of Historical Resources are “conducting an analysis of the discovery to determine next steps,” per the city.

The casket and bone fragments were found “off the beaten path,” and nearby, a small cemetery dating back to the early 1900s.
The city noted in its social media post that Tom Brown Park was formerly federal land before it was converted into a city park in 1977.
