Florida and North Carolina meteorologists talk winter weather

  • January 24, 2026

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – A massive winter storm spanning from the south to the east coast is set to bring historic conditions, and preparations are now underway.

It’s been the talk of the entire eastern United States all week as millions brace for the impacts of snow, sleet and ice.

ABC7 Meteorologist Megan Kennedy caught up with Meteorologist Rachel Coulter, with WBTV, our sister station in Charlotte, North Carolina.

“We’re in news meetings all the time,” Coulter said, “Coming up with game plans, making sure that our teammates are going to be able to be here,” as roads are expected at some point to be impassible with the possibility of 3/4 of an inch of ice.

“Should there be power outages, we’ve been working on the generators to make sure those are up and running. Just all the things to make sure the building is good to go so we can get the message out there but also that everyone is on the same page,” she said.

As the front passes Florida, rain will be expected early Monday morning. After that, temperatures and dew points drop leading to a very chilly last week of January.
