PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA/Gray News) – A massive great white shark was caught along the shoreline in Pensacola Beach, Florida.
The catch marked the fourth great white shark in four years reeled in by the Coastal Worldwide fishing adventure crew.
Dylan Wier and Blaine Kenny, with Coastal Worldwide, helped a group reel in an estimated 1,000-pound shark believed to be 12 to 13 feet long during a 48-hour beach fishing trip.
“This trip specifically was a 48-hour shark fishing trip from the beach, so these guys were here from noon to noon the next day to noon the following day,” Wier said. “In the first 12 hours or so of the trip, we hooked the first shark, which just happened to be a 12 to 13-foot great white shark.”
It took the crew just under an hour to reel in the apex predator. They photographed the shark and quickly released it back into the Gulf of Mexico.
“I don’t even think that they even registered kind of what happened until probably the next day, and even a couple of them were like, ‘I still don’t. We caught a great white.’ It was pretty special,” Kenny said.
Anglers caught a large great white shark along the shores of Pensacola Beach, Florida.
It was the fourth great white shark that Coastal Worldwide caught on Alabama and Florida beaches.
“It’s a huge testimony to our Gulf waters. If these amazing creatures that travel thousands of miles all over the world choose our home to move through, it’s obviously flourishing enough for them. So, that’s pretty cool I think,” Kenny said.
Last week, a massive tagged great white shark pinged off the coast of Dauphin Island. The Pensacola Beach shark did not have a tag, but Coastal Worldwide hopes to receive tagging equipment for future catches.
