A massive and possibly historic winter storm is expected to slam more than half of the U.S. on Saturday, and while South Florida is mostly in the clear, travelers could see delays at some airports.

At Miami International Airport, there are 28 delays and 67 cancellations, while at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, there are 36 delays and 67 cancellations.

In the northern and central plains, wind chills are expected to fall below zero, with temperatures reaching a staggering minus 50 degrees.

Southern states like Texas and Georgia are also bracing for the threat of ice, and the storm has led to a shopping rush at supermarkets and convenience stores, which has led to several empty shelves.

The effects of the storm may last several days.

Travelers are urged to double-check their flight status before they head out the door.
