While the Florida Gators did not have much success on the field under the team’s last phase of leadership, they did quite well in the high school recruiting process, a run the program is hoping to continue under new head coach Jon Sumrall. After just one month on the job, Sumrall has started on the right foot with a Saturday night commitment from four-star cornerback Amare Nugent (Fort Lauderdale, FL).
The No. 105 overall prospect in the nation, Nugent (5-foot-11, 178 pounds) is Florida’s first commitment in the Class of 2027. The American Heritage High School junior chose UF over national champion Indiana as well as in-state programs Florida State and Miami.
Sumrall will now be tasked with putting together a stronger, more complete Year 1 class than his three predecessors after Will Muschamp largely picked up where Urban Meyer left off. Team rankings via 247Sports Composite.
