On Saturday, the Auburn Tigers picked up their third consecutive win in the SEC to improve their conference record to 4-3 and 13-7 overall.
It was also the biggest win of the season with the Tigers picking up a 76-67 victory on the road over No. 16 Florida. The Auburn Tigers played with great defense throughout the game and built an 18-point lead in the second half before eventually tying the game at 9:07 remaining.
The win is the first major win for first-year head coach Steven Pearl, who felt that his team executed the gameplan about as successfully as possible.
“That’s an unbelievable win for our ballclub,” Pearl said postgame. “We’ve been here for 11 years. That might be the best road win that we’ve ever had as a program. If you look back at Auburn basketball history, that might be one of the best road wins we’ve ever had. I thought our guys, for about 32 minutes, executed the gameplan to perfection.”
Here are five key stats that resulted in an Auburn victory.

Keyshawn Hall started the game looking for his offense after struggling over the previous three games. Hall scored the first ten points for the Tigers. He connected on a 10-foot jump shot to put the Tigers up 4-3 early in the game. Next time down the floor, Hall would hit a three-point shot to go up 7-3. He then followed that up by completing a three-point play to get his tenth point of the game. Hall finished the half with 22 points and could only score two in the second half. His big first half set the tone for this Auburn team.
Alex Condon stopped
For Auburn to pull the upset, a key factor was limiting how many points the Florida frontcourt could score. While Thomas Haugh scored 27 points, Alex Condon only scored one point in the game. His only points in the game were on a free throw, and he missed all four of his field goal attempts. That was a key factor in the Gators’ only scoring 67 points in the game.
Gators struggle from three
When the Tigers lost to Michigan, Arizona, and Purdue, they were outscored in the paint by a total of 138-64 in the three defeats. Against the best frontcourt in college basketball, the Tigers used a game plan to not allow the Gators to dominate the paint. The Auburn defense packed the paint and forced the Gators to shoot threes for most of the game. That strategy resulted in Florida shooting 27% from long range, and Auburn won the battle in the paint 38-28.
KeShawn Murphy plays big
KeShawn Murphy was second for the Tigers on Saturday with 16 points. He also scored and hauled in nine rebounds to lead the team. Against Florida, it was just keeping up with his excellent play since Auburn began SEC competition. During conference play, he is averaging 12.6 points per game and 8.3 rebounds.
Auburn controls the game
Auburn held the lead for 37:19 of game time, and the Gators for just 56 seconds. Florida gained the lead in the opening minute when Haugh hit a three to go up 3-0. When Hall connected on his shot to take a 4-3 lead, the Tigers never trailed in the game again. Auburn built an 18-point lead with 18:52 in the second half when Sebastin Williams-Adams made a 24-foot three-pointer to go up 46-28. Florida would make a run and tie the game twice in the second half. Auburn outscored Florida 13-7 in the final 2:19 when the score was 64-60. Auburn made their final three shots of the game while Florida was 2 of their last 14.
