Toy manufacturing giant Mattel Inc. has filed plans in Orlando to build the first of five planned indoor water parks across the country.

The parks will integrate well known Mattel products, including Barbie and Hot Wheels, across attractions ranging from lazy rivers and wave pools to waterslides, according to a news release.

Kimley-Horn, an engineering and design firm, filed a pre-application permit for the project on behalf of Mattel for an 11-acre site in Orange County, according to Fox 35 News.

In November, Mattel announced a series of “experiential aquatic destinations to create a new form of entertainment featuring Mattel’s beloved brands.”

“Mattel Wonder Indoor Waterparks will encompass many iconic Mattel brands that span generations of play, offering innovative water-based attractions and amenities in a dynamic new format for Mattel,” said Julie Freeland, the company’s vice president of global location-based entertainment.

The parks will be developed in partnership with aquatic design firm Martin Aquatic, waterpark management firm American Resort Management, and in collaboration with developer I-dentity Group, according to the release.

Other projects in Martin Aquatic’s portfolio include Royal Caribbean’s Perfect Day at CocoCay, Universal Orlando’s Volcano Bay and The Ritz-Carlton Naples.

“Blending our innovative experiential design with Mattel’s family of brands is a dream come true,” Josh Martin, president and creative director of Martin Aquatic, said.

“We look forward to inspiring that same sense of wonder for kids and adults alike as they cross the threshold into each Mattel Wonder Indoor Waterpark.”

More details will be announced as the development of the parks progresses, according to the release.
