Two students at Lake Brantley High School were charged with attempted murder, police say, after a knife was found Friday during an investigation into a possible threat toward another student.

Altamonte Springs police received information earlier in the day about a potential threat at the school. The investigation revealed two students may have been involved, the department said in a news release, and a search of one of the student’s bags revealed a knife and a note. Both were arrested

The department said cooperation between the police department, the Seminole County School Board and law enforcement partners led to a quick response that “helped prevent a potentially serious incident.”

Among the charges the students are facing are counts of premeditated attempted murder, the release said. The investigation is ongoing.

No other details about the incident were included in the release.

The incident came two weeks after police had responded to Lake Brantley High School for an unverified threat that was determined to be a hoax. The school was put on a Code Red, meaning students and teachers had to remain in classrooms until all was clear.

Police are asking anyone with information about the latest incident to reach out to the department.
