ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — More information has been released in a shooting that occurred in St. Petersburg on Friday after police found one man dead inside a vehicle and another injured nearby.
According to the St. Petersburg Police Department, at about 6:30 p.m., Syltico Morand and another man were armed and attempting to rob two men parked in a vehicle on 22nd Lane South.
Police said the two men in the other vehicle were also armed.
A confrontation ensued, and Morand and the man he was with were both shot.
Police said Morand died at the scene. Another 30-year-old man was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.
Officers who responded to the scene said they detained two men and found multiple firearms.
Evidence gathered in a preliminary investigation suggests the shooting was done in self-defense, but an investigation is still underway, according to a St. Petersburg Police Department spokesperson.
