Detroit leads Tampa Bay 14-9 in the third quarter on Monday Night Football

  • October 21, 2025

DETROIT. (WILX) – Detroit currently leads Tampa Bay 14-3 at halftime on Monday Night Football.

The Detroit Lions got the ball first, and it was Jared Goff hitting Amon-Ra St. Brown for a 27-yard touchdown to give Detroit a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.

The Lions would then proceed to force the Bucs to punt but couldn’t capitalize in their own territory with Goff fumbling. Detroit would stand strong again and force Tampa Bay to once again punt on its next drive.

With less than a minute left in the first quarter, the Lions tried going for it on fourth down at their own 15 and turned it over on downs with an incomplete pass, and Detroit held a 7-0 lead after the first quarter.

The Buccaneers couldn’t get much going on their first drive of the second quarter, and Alim McNeill helped Detroit force another punt.

Lions would also punt on their first drive of the second quarter as both teams remained locked in defensively.

Detroit finally added to its lead with 5:51 left to play in the first half with a Jahmyr Gibbs 78-yard touchdown run to give the Lions a 14-0 lead.

Lions’ Derrick Barnes kept Tampa Bay off the scoreboard with a sack to force the Bucs to punt once again. Detroit would then punt on its following drive.

Detroit’s Rock Ya-Sin made a big defensive play to stall Tampa Bay’s next drive near midfield, and the Bucs had to punt for the fourth time in the half.

It was another Lions’ defender making a play, with Amik Robertson punching the ball out of Sterling Sheppard’s hands after a catch and Aidan Hutchinson recovering it for the turnover. Detroit couldn’t get points on the turnover, though, with Jake Bates missing a 54-yard field goal.

Detroit’s defense continued its domination with Arthur Maulet ripping a pass out of Cade Otton’s hands for an interception to give the Lions right back the ball with less than a minute to play until half.

Goff would throw his first interception of the game to give the Bucs right back the ball with a chance to score before halftime. Tampa Bay would make a 53-yard field goal to crack the scoreboard and cut Detroit’s lead to 14-3 at halftime.

The Lions now have a bye week and will then host the Vikings next on Nov. 2.
