ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A late-night crash involving three vehicles shut down part of Florida’s Turnpike on Sunday after St. Lucie County firefighters responded to the scene around 10:58 p.m. near the 150-mile marker southbound.
According to the St. Lucie County Fire District, crews arrived to the turnpike, between Fort Pierce and Port St. Lucie, to find three vehicles involved in the collision on Jan. 25, including two that sustained heavy damage. One of the vehicles had rolled over. Firefighters worked to extricate two people who were trapped inside.
In total, four patients were evaluated, according to SLCFD. Three trauma alerts were issued. One of those patients was flown to a local trauma center by St. Lucie County Air Rescue, while two others were transported by ground. A fourth patient refused transport.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
