Fresh off a cruise, the Hisler family is headed back home to Pennsylvania and New Jersey — to a lot of snow.
“Two feet of snow, and now it sounds like it’s going to turn into a lot of ice and stuff,” Kierstyn Hisler said.
It has left Kierstyn and her mom and sister wondering when — or even if — their flight would take off on Monday.
“Every hour that we check it’s supposed to fly out, it’s been pushed back an hour,” Hisler said.
The delays and cancellations left many people just sitting outside of airport security with their bags stacked up — and their trips back home uncertain.
“So we may as well make lemonade out of lemons,” Pam Hisler said.
Luckily, the Hislers said they have a place they can stay in Central Florida if they can’t fly out on time. But they said the waiting and wondering about the flight status is not fun.
“Honestly, we are just waiting for it to say canceled. Then we can just start having some fun,” Pam Hisler said.
They said they’re not exactly looking forward to returning to the deep freeze.
“I have pictures of what the home looks like, and it’s that deep — a path shoveled for the dog,” Pam Hisler said.
But despite the weather and delays, they must get back sooner than later.
Work is calling — and pets like Kierstyn’s dog await.
“My boyfriend will just watch him, but he has to go back to work tomorrow. It will be fine,” Kierstyn Hisler said. “But I’m supposed to go back to work tomorrow, too, but there’s only so much I can do if I’m stuck in Florida. Unfortunately, there’s not much we can do with all of the stuff that’s going on with the airports, but just make the most of the time. And hopefully, everyone gets home safe.”
The Federal Aviation Administration issued an advisory Monday morning letting travelers know that low-lying clouds at several airports, including Orlando International Airport, could also delay flights.
