GAINESVILLE — The Florida Gators’ first spring game under new coach Jon Sumrall is set for April 11 at noon in the Swamp.

UF announced the game date on Monday as the 2026 Gators continue winter workouts designed to create a new culture following a 4-8 season and a roster overhaul.

Sumrall told reporters on Saturday that players will not be allowed to wear the iconic Gator head logo on their clothing until he sees results.

“We haven’t earned a damn thing,” he said.

Sumrall returns 39 scholarship players, added more than two dozen transfers and welcomed 17 early enrollees from the 20-player 2026 signing class. But holes remain.

“There’s still some major areas of concern that we have on this roster,” Sumrall said. “But we got to develop  everybody we got to be their best and try to get this football team ready.”

The quarterback competition between Georgia Tech transfer Aaron Philo and redshirt freshman Trammel Jones Jr. will take center stage.

“I like our quarterback room,” Sumrall said. “Long way from making that decision, but they’ll make it for us. They decide who starts by how they practice and how they play.”

The Gators open spring practice March 3 and plan to hold a total 15 practices slated every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, culminating with the Orange and Blue game. The team will be off March 14-21 for spring break.

The annual scrimmage divides the Gators football team into two squads for a showcase event free of admission.
