TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The USDA has designated eight Florida counties as primary natural disaster areas, citing the recent drought conditions.
The primary counties listed in the designated disaster area are Gadsden, Holmes, Jackson, Jefferson, Leon, Madison, Walton and Washington.
Contiguous counties include Bay, Calhoun, Hamilton, Lafayette, Liberty, Okaloosa, Suwannee, Taylor and Wakulla.
A Secretarial disaster designation makes farmers in both primary and contiguous counties eligible to be considered for Farm Service Agency emergency loan assistance.
Farmers in those counties have seven months left to apply for emergency loans. FSA will consider each emergency loan application on its on merits and take into account the extent of production loses.
