St. Pete’s pizza scene has a new contender. SoDough Square, a Central-Florida based Detroit-style pizza shop, has officially opened its doors at 6925 4th St. N in St. Pete.
As part of the soft opening phase, SoDough Square is open Tuesday-Sunday from 4-9 pm, or until they hit 200 pizzas sold in a night. As fans of crispy and doughy Detroit-style pies, we’re excited to help contribute to that total.

SoDough Square got its start in the Orlando area, where it quickly built a devoted following among locals and tourists alike. With three locations in Central Florida, this fourth location marks the company’s first entry into the Tampa Bay market. The website says a Tampa location is in the works.
In addition to the classic Detroit-style pies, SoDough also offers Detroit-style garlic bread, coney dogs, salads, wings, and “Detroit Dough Dots,” which are essentially cinnamon bread bites. The pizzas themselves come in small or large sizes with more than a dozen varieties of toppings and specialties. This is a place for lovers of all forms of carbohydrate.
The keys to the pizza at SoDough are a 24-hour fermented dough, a house-made Detroit red sauce, a proprietary shredded brick cheese blend, and of course, the traditional pan preparation. SoDough outlined the process on their website.
“We begin by baking your Detroit-style pizza in traditional blue steel pans, sourced directly from Michigan, which impart the distinctive characteristics of this unique style. Every component is crafted in-house, including our signature Stanislaus tomato sauce and proprietary brick cheese blend, specifically shredded for SoDough.
“The true highlight, however, is our high-hydration, authentic Detroit dough. While this pizza is celebrated for many qualities, its standout feature is the “frico” — the caramelized cheese crust that defines its style and flavor. We take great care to use only the finest, freshest, and most flavorful ingredients, ensuring an exceptional culinary experience.”
