Cody Ellis Waller. LEON CO FL SHERIFF’S OFFICE

An Ashland City man wanted on multiple charges in both Cheatham and Dickson Counties learned that a man can run, but he can’t hide, especially with the Cheatham County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Unit (CCSOWU) on the hunt.

Cody Ellis Waller, 35, was arrested at a bus station in Tallahassee, Florida by the Tallahassee Police Department on Tuesday, Jan. 13. According to CCSO commander Sgt. Ryan Hawkins, if Waller agrees, he should be extradited to Cheatham County this week.

The CCSOWU has been making waves all over the nation bringing fugitives to justice since its launch last May.  Hawkins said the warrants list has taken his team all the way to Arizona and Delaware.

Waller was wanted in Cheatham County on an aggravated child abuse charge towards a child eight years old or younger stemming from 2020, but failed to appear in court in 2023.  Waller was also facing multiple charges in Dickson County over the last several years, including theft, fraudulent use of a credit/debit card and violation of an order of protection.

The CCSOWU works in cooperation with other law enforcement agencies to bring those on the run to justice, but while they enjoy the victories, they don’t get much down time because the list keeps growing.  “It’s daunting because there’s a whole bunch of them, so we celebrate for five or 10 minutes and then we reach in the desk and pull out another file and start on the next one,” Hawkins said.
