Second man arrested after 2024 shooting death of Jacksonville teenager

  • January 27, 2026

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) – A second person has been arrested in connection with the 2024 shooting death of a Cherokee County teenager.

Randarriuz Dewberry, 20, of Jacksonville, was held Tuesday at the Cherokee County Jail on bonds totaling $1.085 million for two counts charging him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and additional charges of evading arrest and failure to identify, according to jail records.

Dewberry is the second person arrested in connection with the Feb. 14, 2024, shooting death of Jayden Polk, 17.

Texas troopers arrested the man during a traffic stop Thursday on Farm-to-Market Road 346 near Bullard, according to a press release.

Cherokee County deputies responded to the shooting and found Polk with severe gunshot wounds, according to Cherokee County Sheriff Brent Dickson. He was later pronounced dead at nearby hospital.

Further investigation revealed that a 20-year-old male, later identified as Isiah Mallord, of Jacksonville, was taken by a private vehicle to a nearby hospital before being flown to a Tyler hospital in critical condition, Dickson said.

Both men were involved in an argument before the shooting, Dickson said.

It is unclear how Dewberry was involved in the shooting.
