TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A Texas deputy is in custody after a Leon County Sheriff’s Office undercover investigation found he sent obscene material to what he thought was a 13-year-old online.
John Fredrick Black, 46, was arrested in Texas on a warrant issued by LCSO. Black faces multiple charges, including distribution of obscene material to a minor, unlawful use of a computer to seduce, solicit or lure a child and unlawful use of a two-way communications device, according to the sheriff’s office.
At the time of his arrest, Black was employed as a sergeant at the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, per LCSO.

During the investigation, deputies with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office Human Exploitation and Trafficking (HEAT) Unit posed as a 13-year-old on an online platform and began chatting with Black.
“During those conversations, Black continued communicating even after being told the person he was talking to was a minor and sent obscene material of himself to the undercover detective,” LCSO said in a Monday press release.
The investigation also revealed similar chats Black had with two additional minors on the same online chat platform, according to the sheriff’s office.
LCSO says additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
WCTV is working to obtain Black’s mugshot.
