PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — A Bishop in Port St. Lucie is speaking out after his church was apparently vandalized.

In a Facebook post, Bishop JT Baumgardner of Truth Church described how several weeks ago, a man named James, who had briefly attended the church, approached him with unusual demands.

Baumgardner said James allegedly insisted that the church should display both an American flag and a Jewish flag on the altar and have the congregation recite the Pledge of Allegiance. The bishop said that he respectfully declined, stating that such requirements were not biblical and that he would wait for God’s guidance.

On Sunday, January 25, Baumgardner said that James returned and sat in the front row, appearing visibly agitated while carrying a backpack.

Bishop Baumgardner also noted that during the worship service, James began taking photos of women and children and disruptively confronted the church’s Executive Pastor, Michelle, using harsh language against women in leadership.

Congregants alerted church leaders about the unrest, prompting Baumgardner to call on the church’s security team.

Baumgardner said that they successfully escorted James off the church property, but not before he shouted, “I’m shaking the dust off my feet” as he departed.

The following morning, church leaders discovered the building had been vandalized, with broken glass on the porch and the cross in front of the church thrown down.

Baumgardner affirmed that Truth Church will continue to be a place of peace and worship, committed to protecting its congregation, and has asked for continued prayers for Truth Church.

Baumgardner told CBS12 News that he filed a report with St. Lucie County Sheriff Richard Del Toro. According to Baumgardner, the sheriff said his office is aware of the situation. Baumgardner said the sheriff’s office located the suspect and issued a restraining order, as well as a no-trespass order for the entire plaza.
