Duke University and Blue Devils quarterback Darian Mensah have reached a settlement agreement, Mensah’s agency announced on Tuesday morning.
The agreement allows Mensah to transfer and enroll at another school, a source told the South Florida Sun Sentinel. The star quarterback is expected to sign with the Miami Hurricanes in the coming days.
“Through close collaboration and principled negotiation, we have successfully navigated an unprecedented path, one that has now reached a fair and mutually agreeable resolution,” Mensah’s agency, Young Money APAA Sports announced.
“We commend Darian for his extraordinary professionalism, maturity, and unwavering commitment to making the decision that best serves his future and his family. His approach throughout the process exemplifies the highest standards of character and integrity.”
Duke also released a statement Tuesday morning: “Duke University Athletics and Darian Mensah have reached a resolution that enables both parties to move forward. We are committed to fulfilling all promises and obligations Duke makes to our student-athletes when we enter into contractual agreements with them, and we expect the same in return. Enforcing those agreements is a necessary element of ensuring predictability and structure for athletic programs. It is nonetheless a difficult choice to pursue legal action against a student and teammate; for this reason we sought to resolve the matter fairly and quickly.”
The settlement agreement paves the way for Mensah to transfer to UM. Miami has been his expected destination since he announced his intention to enter the transfer portal on Jan. 16. After Mensah announced he planned to enter the portal, Duke sued him, claiming he was violating his NIL agreement.
At first, Mensah was permitted to enter the transfer portal, but was restrained from enrolling at another university and joining their football team. The agreed-upon settlement removes that barrier from Mensah’s path.
In his one season at Duke, Mensah helped lead the Blue Devils to an improbable ACC championship. He threw for 3,973 yards with 34 touchdowns and six interceptions in 2025. He was second in the nation in passing yards and tied for second in touchdown passes.
Mensah, a second-team All-ACC selection, had the second-best passing grade in the conference (85), trailing only FSU quarterback Thomas Castellanos. Mensah ranked 13th in the nation.
