BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A 19-year-old facing a murder charge is seeking another temporary release after recently being allowed to attend his father’s funeral.

According to court records filed on January 22, 2026, Larry Lamar Smith is requesting a temporary release to visit his newborn child. The court documents say Smith’s fiancée is pregnant and is expected to deliver her baby on Thursday, January 29, at a hospital in Davie.

The document outlines that Smith agreed to pretrial release with an electronic monitor and a curfew.

The hearing for his temporary release is expected to be held on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m.

CBS12 reported in July that Smith was arrested in connection with a shooting that killed a teenager from Fort Pierce in May. First responders found Myrah Zeigler lying in the street with a gunshot wound. She was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center — where she was later pronounced dead.

On July 6, Fort Lauderdale police stopped Larry Smith, 19, during a traffic operation. Officers discovered Smith had an outstanding warrant for second-degree murder in Zeigler’s death and took him into custody without incident. He was booked at the Broward Main Jail without bond and faces a charge of second-degree murder. Court records showed he was previously arrested in Palm Beach County for trespassing and weapon-related charges just days before his murder.

In August, a Broward County Judge approved a motion for Smith to be temporarily released from Broward County Jail so he could attend his father’s funeral.

His release was concerning forZeigler’s mother who told CBS12 she didn’t understand how a murder suspect was allowed to leave jail, even for a few hours.
