Submissions begin Feb. 5 for artists to submit their work.
TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa International Airport announced Tuesday morning it will add eight new art commissions to the airport.Â
The airport announced that they will add six of the eight to the forthcoming Airside D, the new 16-gate international and domestic Airside currently under construction. The other two will go to the two newly expanded security screening checkpoints in Airsides A and E, which opened in 2025.
Submissions for artists to send in their artwork will start on Feb. 5 and will close on March 19.Â
The process will consist of two phases. The first phase will conduct a review of all CaFE-submitted applications and will develop a short list of Qualified Artists. The second will invite the artists from the group and submit a proposal.Â
The proposal will include a $4,000 stipend to allow them to develop 3-D views, a maquette, and a representation to show their concept and design intent.Â
In the last few years, the airport has constructed 16 public art installations around the terminal, including the 21-foot pink flamingo, Phoebe, in the Main Terminal.
The artists must confirm with the airport that they have completed a commission or sold one piece of artwork for a minimum of $15,000.
