The City of Tampa Black History Committee, Inc (COTBHC) will host the 38th Annual City of Tampa Black History Celebration on Friday, February 6th at 11am inside the Tampa Convention Center. This community event is open to the public.

The celebration’s theme – Honoring Our Veterans: Celebrating 250 Years of Service and Strength, rightly frames Tampa’s Black History Celebration as an opportunity to commemorate our nation’s anniversary by recognizing the men and women who have kept America strong through serving in the United States Military-special recognition of 30 military veterans and the presentation of a new “Community Hero Award” to State Representative Dianne Hart!

Mayor Jane Castor, joined by members of Tampa City Council and City staff, will bring greetings during the celebration. Deanne King, WFLA morning traffic anchor and award-winning journalist, will serve as Mistress of Ceremonies.

The keynote address will be delivered by Tampa Fire Chief and U.S. Navy Veteran, Barbara Tripp. Chief Tripp has held positions as a Firefighter, Paramedic, Paramedic Field Training Officer, Lieutenant, Captain, Acting District Chief, Quality Assurance Officer, Rescue Division Supervisor, and Rescue Division Chief.
