Emergency cold-weather shelters open this week in St. Lucie and Okeechobee counties as a cold front sweeps through the area.
By Monday night into early Tuesday, temperatures will tumble a dramatic 30 to 36 degrees. Even coastal metro areas will wake up to a much colder Tuesday morning and afternoon with highs struggling to get into the 60s.
ST. LUCIE COUNTY
St. Lucie County and the city of Fort Pierce, in partnership with In the Image of Christ, are extending the opening of a cold weather shelter at Percy Peek Gym (2902 Avenue D). It will open Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday at 5 p.m. and close at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, Feb. 1.
The Area Regional Transit will provide free transportation at the following locations:

A warming shelter will open at RiteLife Services (202 NE 2nd Street) from 5 p.m. Monday through Jan. 30. Guests are asked to bring their own bedding, hygiene products and snacks.
