TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A new 86-unit affordable housing complex could open as soon as 2028 on Tallahassee’s Southside after the Leon County Commission voted to authorize gap funding for a project known as ViaNova.
Sponsored by Volunteers of America-Florida, the project would receive a combined $187,000 from the City of Tallahassee and Leon County, which would sweeten their chances at receiving some $7,215,200 from the Florida Housing Finance Corporation (FHFC).

According to county documents, 73 units would be reserved for those making 60% or less of the average median income, with another 13 units set aside for “very low income” or those making less than 40% of the average median income.
This year, Volunteers of America-Florida said Tallahassee is a second-tier priority zone for the FHFC, and if funding isn’t granted from the state, they’ll try again next year.
They already tried once last year, but they didn’t have the “gap financing” from the local governments, which increases their chance of state funding.
