Dropped passes have been an issue for Jacksonville Jaguars’ second-year wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. this season.
That then continued in Sunday’s loss to the LA Rams.
Thomas entered Week 7 with four drops on the season, according to PFF. This was tied for the fourth-most in football among wide receivers.
Thomas, unfortunately, added some additional drops to that total in this week’s game. Afterward, head coach Liam Coen discussed the situation.
“We obviously need to make sure that we’re in a position with our hands, with our violent to the tuck, with the way we’re looking the ball in,” Coen said. “And also ball placement — making sure the ball is in the right spots, all that stuff. I think there’s a combination of things. Still we gotta keep throwing it though. I mean, we can’t go running it, running it, running it. So it’s just the way it goes.”

As Coen alludes to, not all drops are created equal. In some instances, a better-placed ball can help, but with that said, in order for this Jaguars‘ offense to reach its ceiling, they need Thomas to become a more reliable target for Trevor Lawrence.
Beyond just the drops, the connection between Lawrence and Thomas has not taken off this season. While Thomas is targeted heavily with 47 passes thrown his way, he’s caught only 24 of them, averaging 13.9 yards per reception with one touchdown.
