Orlando police investigate shooting call outside movie theater, crash on side of tire shop
UP IN A FEW SHORT MINUTES. THIS MORNING WE ARE WORKING TO LEARN WHAT SPARKED A HUGE LAW ENFORCEMENT RESPONSE AT TWO SCENES IN ORANGE COUNTY. ONE WAS AT A MOVIE THEATER IN ORLANDO THIS MORNING. WESH TWO BOB HAZEN LIVE AT THAT THEATER JUST OFF SEMORAN BOULEVARD. BOB INVESTIGATORS WERE THERE FOR HOURS OVERNIGHT. YEAH, WE ARE OUTSIDE THE EPIC THEATER HERE IN THE SHOPPING CENTER JUST NORTH OF ORLANDO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, AND IT IS QUIET IN THE PARKING LOT THIS MORNING, BUT IT DOES LOOK LIKE ORLANDO POLICE WERE CALLED HERE LAST NIGHT FOR SOME KIND OF ATTACK. AND I WANT TO SHOW YOU THE VIDEO OF WHAT WE FOUND WHEN WE CAME HERE LATE LAST NIGHT. POLICE HAD THE ENTIRE PARKING LOT OUTSIDE THIS EPIC THEATER SURROUNDED BY CRIME SCENE TAPE. THE ORIGINAL CALL HERE WAS FOR A SHOOTING JUST A LITTLE BEFORE 11 P.M., AND THEN ABOUT 90 MINUTES LATER, OPD ALSO LISTED AS A FUGITIVE FROM JUSTICE. NOW WE COULD SEE EVIDENCE MARKERS ON THE PARKING LOT, ALONG WITH A RED HAT ON THE GROUND THAT WAS ROPED OFF. CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATORS WERE OUT HERE GETTING PICTURES OF ALL OF THAT, ALSO SEARCHING THE PARKING LOT FOR MORE EVIDENCE. ORLANDO POLICE HAVE NOT CONFIRMED EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED OUT HERE, OR WHETHER ANYONE WAS SERIOUSLY HURT IN THIS REPORTED SHOOTING, AND WE’RE ALSO WORKING TO FIND OUT IF THIS CRIME SCENE IS CONNECTED TO ANOTHER ONE ON THE NORTH END OF TOWN, CLOSER TO WINTER PARK. YEAH, RIGHT NOW WE ARE AT THE INTERSECTION OF LEE ROAD AND WYMORE IN WINTER PARK, WHERE THE ROAD IS NOW BACK OPEN, BUT IT WAS CLOSED FOR MORE THAN FOUR HOURS LAST NIGHT. AND WE DO HAVE SOME VIDEO TO SHOW YOU OF WHAT THAT SCENE LOOKED LIKE AROUND 11:00 LAST NIGHT, WHICH IS JUST DOWN THE STREET FROM WESH TWO. NOW, MORE THAN A DOZEN ORLANDO POLICE VEHICLES WERE ON SCENE RIGHT FROM THE RETIREMENT LIVING COMMUNITY ON WYMORE, PAST THE TIRE KINGDOM AND STRETCHING ONTO THE I-4 RAMP, JUST PAST THE CRIME SCENE TAPE ON THE SIDE OF TIRE KINGDOM. THERE WAS A GRAY SEDAN RIGHT ON THE GRASS. POLICE HAD FLASHLIGHTS AND WERE LOOKING THROUGH THE CAR. WE COULD SEE PARTS OF THE CAR ON THE GROUND, WHICH LOOKED LIKE A CRASH. AND RIGHT NOW WE ARE STILL WORKING TO LEARN EXACTLY IF THIS IS CONNECTED TO A DIFFERENT INVESTIGATION. AND WE’RE WORKING TO LEARN MORE FROM ORLANDO POLICE. The Orlando Police Department is investigating a shooting call outside a movie theater and a crash more than 15 miles away.Just before 11 p.m. Monday, officers were called to the parking lot of the Epic Theater on Eagle Watch Drive in a shopping center north of the Orlando International Airport. The initial call was for a battery involving a shooting.A WESH 2 News crew could see an evidence marker in front of what appeared to be a bullet shell casing on the ground. Crime scene investigators had also roped off a red hat left behind.Shortly after midnight, OPD also listed a “fugitive from justice” at the same location. OPD has not released information yet about whether anyone was seriously hurt in the shooting.Law enforcement also surrounded the corner of Lee Road and Wymore Road near Winter Park after a car crashed into the side of a tire shop. Dispatchers told WESH 2 it was believed to be connected to an investigation on the east side of town.The intersection was closed for several hours but reopened around 3 a.m.WESH 2 has reached out to the Orlando Police Department to determine whether the two incidents are connected and is awaiting a response.
