OCOEE, Fla. – An Ocoee man was put behind bars last week after a traffic flareup involving some children in his neighborhood, according to the police department.
In an arrest affidavit, police said they were called to Valerie Rose Way and Douglas Edward Drive on Saturday evening.
Upon arrival, police said they learned that a group of children had been riding their E-Bikes in the area, but a BMW had driven by and cut them off, with a passenger yelling, “Get out of the road, (expletive).”
According to police, the passenger — later identified as Angelique Norwood, 46 — then reportedly got out of the BMW and approached the children, appearing as though she wanted “to fight them.”
One of the children, a 13-year-old boy, told investigators he began crossing the street nearby, which is when the BMW driver struck him and fled the scene.
“(The boy) said he was able to jump off his bike in time, preventing injury,” the affidavit reads.
Meanwhile, the boy also told police that Norwood had grabbed one of his friends as he was taking pictures of the BMW.
“After letting go… (Norwood) approached a female witness who was recording the incident and repeatedly yelled, ‘Delete the video,’” the affidavit continues. “After a verbal argument, (Norwood) walked away toward her residence to meet her husband.”
Police then reviewed footage of the incident, finding that the BMW had accelerated into the child as he tried to cross the road on his E-Bike, investigators revealed. Police said the E-Bike had been damaged beyond repair.
Despite that, the driver — identified as Todd Norwood, 45 — claimed that the children had been “driving recklessly” on their E-Bikes, swerving in and out of the lane while shouting insults at the Norwood couple.
Todd Norwood also told investigators that the 13-year-old had swerved in front of his vehicle, nearly causing a collision, police added.
“Angelique exited the vehicle to speak with the juveniles,” the affidavit states. “Todd said the juveniles continued to ride around his vehicle, making him feel threatened, so he decided to drive home. When asked why he left his wife at the scene, he stated that fear clouded his judgment.”
Todd Norwood was ultimately arrested and now faces charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and criminal mischief.
His wife, Angelique Norwood, also faces a charge of battery.
