The beloved world of Back to the Future is heading to Fort Lauderdale as the smash-hit musical prepares to land at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts from Feb. 3–15. Fresh off acclaimed runs on Broadway, London’s West End and stages around the globe, the production brings its signature high-energy spectacle, nostalgic charm and inventive stagecraft to South Florida for this Broadway season.
Based on the iconic film, the musical follows Marty McFly as he’s accidentally transported to 1955 in a time-traveling DeLorean created by his eccentric friend, Dr. Emmett Brown. To return to 1985, Marty must help his teenage parents find their spark — before it’s too late.
“To paraphrase Marty McFly, you guys are ready for this, and your kids are gonna love it (too),” Gale says. “Regardless of whether you’ve seen the original film, BACK TO THE FUTURE: The Musical … will delight and enthrall you, your kids, your parents and everyone you know!”
With a book by the film’s cocreator Bob Gale, new music and lyrics by Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard and classics like “The Power of Love” and “Johnny B. Goode,” the show blends cinematic nostalgia with spectacular effects. The West End production has drawn more than 1.8 million audience members since its 2021 opening and earned the Olivier Award for Best New Musical.
“Marty, Doc and all at Hill Valley can’t wait to continue this tour across North America, thrilling audiences with this heartfelt story and stagecraft that has not been attempted before,” lead producer Colin Ingram adds.
The musical’s creative team includes director John Rando, set and costume designer Tim Hatley, lighting designers Tim Lutkin and Hugh Vanstone, sound designer Gareth Owen, video designer Finn Ross and choreographer Chris Bailey.
