The Sanibel City Council is accepting applications for the Historical Preservation Committee and the Vegetation Committee.

HISTORICAL PRESERVATION COMMITTEE

The Historical Preservation Committee shall be composed of a minimum of five but not more than 10 members. The terms will begin on March 3 and end on March 15, 2027.

Qualifications include:

– Members are appointed by the council for one-year terms.

– Appointees must be full-time residents of Sanibel.

– Appointees must have knowledge, skills or interest in historical preservation.

Responsibilities include:

– Attend committee meetings quarterly on the first Thursday of each month (February, May, August and November) at 9 a.m. at City Hall, at 800 Dunlop Road, Sanibel. Additional meetings may be scheduled as business arises.

– Assist in the committee’s procedures for acquisition and de-accession of materials and objects acquired by the Sanibel Historical Museum and Village.

– Assist the committee in collecting, procuring, preserving and displaying items relating to the history of the islands of Sanibel, Captiva and their environs.

VEGETATION COMMITTEE

The Vegetation Committee shall be comprised of five or more members. The terms will begin on March 3 and end on March 15, 2027.

Qualifications include:

– Members are appointed by the council.

– Appointees must be full-time residents of Sanibel.

– Appointees must have knowledge, skills or interests in vegetation.

– Appointees must earn a passing score on the city’s Vegetation Competency Exam.

Responsibilities include:

– Attend committee meetings on the first Thursday of each month (except August) at 1:30 p.m. at City Hall, at 800 Dunlop Road, Sanibel.
